About DyeCat

DyeCat was founded in 2006 by Professor Chris Rayner, Dr. Patrick McGowan and Dr. Richard Blackburn, of the University of Leeds. DyeCat has received significant investment, allowing the development of several technology streams which they are looking to commercialise with selected partners.

DyeCat has a wide range of expertise and experience in chemistry and coloration processes. Along with proprietary technologies, DyeCat offers technical innovation and problem solving and can help develop novel solutions to technically difficult issues.

DyeCat has a vision – to improve the performance, environmental impact and sustainability of coloration technology through technical innovation.

DyeCat’s approach is to work with technology-led companies that share our vision of improving the technical and environmental performance of coloration processes. Textile/Fibre dyeing – DyeCat offers novel dyeing process that has several advantages;

• Being able to dye different material such as polyester/cotton or polyester/wool blends etc., in one step to produce a single shade
• Being able to dye speciality fibres and that notoriously difficult to colour such as aramids and polypropylene
• Reducing the energy (temperature), water and cost requirements of conventional dyeing methods

Synthetic Polymers – DyeCat has developed a novel polymerisation technology that can produce perfectly colourfast polymers;

• Dye inclusion and catalytic polymerisation producing coloured polymers at the point of synthesis
• Remove the need for downstream dyeing and coloration
• Reduces water and energy consumption in the product life cycle
• Perfect colourfastness on polymers
• Other functionality such as UV absorbance or fluorescence
• Applicable to the production of bioplastics such as PLA

Hair Dyeing – DyeCat has applied its knowledge of fibre dyeing in reducing the harmful components of hair dyeing products;

• Improving the safety of hair dyeing technology
• Producing neutral pH hair dye products
• Removing irritants and allergens from hair dye products, reducing the probability of allergic reactions
• Replacing synthetic components with natural alternatives
